Hearts Awakening was honored to be the educational content provider for the launch of “Rock Life: Redefining Strong,” a youth self-esteem and empowerment campaign designed to increase visibility and resolution of the rising incidence of eating disorders, bullying, depression and suicide in teen and young adult populations in the United States. Through Rock Life, HA provided education and intervention programs and services designed to help young people feel more confident, connected and supported so they can deal better with the dynamics of school, personal and family life. Additionally, we held special sessions with parents to help them understand the warning signs of bullying and depression, and taught supportive ways to communicate and resolve issues before they escalate to a point of no return.
Our joint efforts were successful in garnering City Council and Mayoral support for bans on bullying in the neighboring cities of Calabasas and Agoura Hills, CA. Hearts Awakening Founder and Executive Director, Valerie Sheppard, was also awarded the Rock Life Redefine Strong Life Enrichment Award.
Rock Life was founded by NBA legend Mitch “Rock” Richmond and his wife Juli in response to the alarming rate of teen suicide in California’s Calabasas and Agoura Hills communities, home to the Richmond family since 2001.
